Launch of ‘Welcome the Stranger’ – a resource to welcome newcomers

We are pleased to launch ‘Welcome the Stranger’ – a new resource to help people support refugees, asylum seekers and migrants in their neighbourhoods.

Most people move to other countries both by choice, but for some it is a necessity.
They often need support to settle into a new place and feel at home in a new community. ‘Welcome the Stranger’ provides information on supporting people as they begin their lives in a new place. It is for anyone wishing to support newcomers in their areas.

From befriending groups, to setting up a community sponsorship scheme, it explores many different ways to welcome newcomers in our communities. It contains tailored information for schools, universities, and parish groups. And it covers topics such as fundraising, finding volunteers, safeguarding and more. You will also find case studies, tips for overcoming language barriers, signposting information and how-to guides.

Produced by Father Hudson’s Care and Caritas Archdiocee of Birmingham, ‘Welcome the Stranger’ draws on a wealth of experience from Father Hudson’s family of charities and community partners.
